Just how big is Alaska?
571,951 sq mi. (1,4 81,353 sq km), equal to 1/5 of the continental United States.
Alaska is the farthest North, West, and East point of the United States. It crosses the international date line.
Purchased from Russia October 18, 1867 for two cents per acre ($7,200,000). Alaska joined the United States January 3, 1959 as the 49th State.

One
of the most famous races here in Alaska-Mount Marathon.
The race is held annually on July 4th in Seward, Alaska-the course
is straight up the side of a mountain. 600 people run the race each
year. The lead racers complete the 3,000 foot ascent and descent
in a little under an hour.
In July 2000, we placed four cameras on the side of the mountain
and provided complete live coverage of the race. This was a combination
of all aspects of our business: Remote Production, News Coverage
and Satellite Transmission.
Night and Day in Alaska
Producers often wonder if they're going to have to deal with
24-hour darkness when coming to Alaska. The answer is-it depends
on where and when you go.
